Brown in shock na dood De Ferran: 'De volgende overwinning is voor jou'

Het onverwachte overlijden van de Braziliaanse autosportlegende Gil de Ferran heeft de motorsportwereld in grote shock gebracht. De Braziliaan, onder meer voormalig winnaar van de Indy500, kreeg vrijdag in Florida een fataal hartinfarct. Inmiddels komen er via X de nodige condoleances binnen, onder meer van Zak Brown (CEO McLaren). Voor het Engelse team was De Ferran tegenwoordig adviseur.

Brown schrijft op sociale media: "Ik ben geschokt en er kapot van om te horen van het verlies van onze geweldige vriend en teamgenoot. Ik heb over de hele wereld met Gil geracet en heb hem enkele van de grootste races zien winnen. Hij is al meer dan 20 jaar een geweldige vriend en zal enorm gemist en nooit vergeten worden. Mijn diepste medeleven aan zijn familie. RIP Gil. De volgende overwinning is voor jou! Godspeed"

Piastri reageert bedroefd

De Ferran werkte in het verleden als sportief directeur van McLaren. Gedurende 2023 keerde hij terug bij het team als adviseur. Zo leerde de Braziliaan ook Oscar Piastri kennen. De Australiër zegt: "Het was een genoegen om Gil dit jaar te leren kennen, hij zal enorm gemist worden. Rust in vrede"
