Max Verstappen has stated that it is "not my problem" after he was not handed a time penalty for taking evasive action on the grass at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
"It was just very hectic in a lot of different scenarios, and I felt like I didn't do anything wrong."
The Dutchman left the track and cut their first two corners after a manic start saw four cars go side-by-side into turn 1, with the Dutchman and Charles Leclerc both onto the grass to then rejoin the track.
The stewards decided that no penalty was necessary for the pair of them, but a lap later, Lewis Hamilton ended up going wide at turn 4, and without using the escape road, he rejoined the track, resulting in the seven-time world champion being handed a ten-second time penalty.

However, in response to the complaints from Hamilton and Russell regarding the penalty decisions and the corner-cutting, respectively, Verstappen had a very simple message.
"It's not my problem," the Dutchman stated in the media pen after the Grand Prix.
"It was just very hectic in a lot of different scenarios, and I felt like I didn't do anything wrong."

Stunning second stint from Verstappen

After starting P5 on the grid, a stunning second stint on the soft tyres from Verstappen brought him back onto the podium, keeping himself in touching distance of race winner and now championship leader, Lando Norris.
"It was a bit weird. In the beginning, it looked terrible, but then I guess it seemed that on the medium, in general, it was a big struggle for everyone, because I did the opposite of most, and as soon as I was on the soft, it looked more competitive compared to most around me," the Dutchman said as he debriefed the race.

"Of course, I'm not comparing myself to McLaren, I think they were still too fast, but at least we could go back to the podium
"We were a little bit unlucky with the virtual safety car at the end, but you know, you win some and you lose some."
After Norris' win saw the Brit leapfrog teammate Oscar Piastri in the drivers' standings to lead by a single point, Verstappen stated that every Grand Prix must be a victory to earn a fifth consecutive title.
