F1 Full Results | Norris secures Spanish GP Pole Position at the Madring

Norris' quickest lap time in Q3, a last-gasp 1:31.824, was enough to edge out Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen in a dramatic end to Madrid qualifying. The world champion completes an impressive comeback for McLaren, after having missed out on FP2 due to a gearbox issue - running just two installation laps in the second part of Friday's action.

Norris could barely believe his result, becoming the first ever driver to take Pole Position at the Madring circuit in the Spanish capital. It is also the third Pole for the 26-year-old in four races, having secured victory at the Hungarian and Dutch Grands Prix this season.

"Very very happy. Very proud, very happy for the team. Just one of those laps where everything came together," Norris said post-Quali. "I had a good idea of what I wanted to do. It was whether my brain let me do it on the last lap. Everything pretty much worked perfectly.

Both Audi drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto yet again just missed out on a Q3 result in Qualifying, the former two tenths off Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad in Q2. The 19-year-old has recovered well from his crash in FP2 on Friday, and made it into the final 10 ahead of the Audi duo, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon.

Alpine's Franco Colapinto also impressed in the second part of Qualifying, making it into the top 10 ahead of his teammate, Italian GP pole-sitter Pierre Gasly.

At the back of the grid, neither home hero managed to make it out of Q1, as Carlos Sainz qualified P17, just 0.005s behind Williams teammate Albon. The Spaniard was joined by compatriot Fernando Alonso, Cadillac duo Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, as well as Ollie Bearman and Lance Stroll as the drivers out in Q1.

Bearman and Stroll failed to complete a lap during Qualifying, after the former's big FP3 crash and a suspected water pressure issue with Stroll's Aston Martin. The Canadian nevertheless will start from the back of the grid at the Madring thanks to an engine penalty.
