Bearman’s Madrid qualifying hopes hang in balance after big FP3 crash

The young Briton clipped the barriers with his right-front tyre shortly before the entry to the Monumental corner, sending his VF-26 into a spin. Bearman then hit the barriers heavily side-on with the left-hand side of the car, leaving his Haas with significant damage to both the front and rear.

Haas' mechanics now face a race against time to repair the car before qualifying. With only two hours available and the VF-26 having sustained extensive damage, Bearman being able to take part in the session currently looks optimistic.

Haas' task is made even more difficult by the reduced turnaround time between FP3 and qualifying. The lengthy stoppage caused by Lewis Hamilton's earlier crash, which required extensive repairs to the barriers, pushed the end of the final practice session back and therefore left the team with even less time than usual to work on Bearman's heavily damaged VF-26.
