Haas F1 Team is an American Formula 1 team that made its debut in 2016. The team is owned by businessman Gene Haas, who is also co-owner of the NASCAR team Stewart-Haas Racing. After a strong start, results became inconsistent, and in recent years Haas has mostly operated at the back of the grid. In 2023, the team even finished last in the constructors’ championship. In 2026, Haas fields Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman and competes under the name TGR Haas F1 Team.

Haas in Formula 1

Haas entered Formula 1 in 2016 with Gene Haas as owner and Guenther Steiner as team principal. The team took a unique approach by purchasing many components—primarily from Ferrari—to reduce costs, which led to controversy among rivals. With a Dallara chassis and Ferrari engine, Haas made an immediate impression in its debut season with drivers Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez.
Kevin Magnussen replaced Gutierrez in 2017, and while both drivers regularly scored points, the team again finished eighth in the constructors’ standings. In 2018, Haas showed strong pace early in the season but lost key results due to failed pit stops in Australia. Despite setbacks, the team recovered and finished fifth in the championship, just behind Renault.
In 2019, Haas partnered with Rich Energy, but the deal collapsed within the same year. Performance dropped, and the team spent most of the season at the back. This trend continued in the following years. In 2021, Haas scored no points and focused entirely on the 2022 regulations, initially showing improvement before fading again. The team still managed to finish eighth overall.

In 2023, Haas replaced Mick Schumacher with Nico Hulkenberg, who returned after three years away. However, results remained poor. Points were rare, and the team failed to score in the final eight races, finishing last in the constructors’ championship.
On January 10, 2024, Guenther Steiner was dismissed as team principal and replaced by Ayao Komatsu. With Hulkenberg and Magnussen still driving, Haas improved under new leadership and finished seventh in the standings with 58 points.

TGR Haas F1 Team 2026

In 2026, Haas competes against ten other teams, including new American entrant Cadillac. Both teams use Ferrari power units. Haas also adopts a new name: TGR Haas F1 Team, following a partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
The team must adapt to the new technical regulations. It will use a revised Ferrari engine with a greater electrical component. The chassis rules also change: cars become smaller, DRS is removed, and active aerodynamics are introduced.

Haas 2025

For 2025, Haas introduced a completely new driver line-up. Nico Hulkenberg left for Sauber (which becomes Audi in 2026), while Kevin Magnussen exited Formula 1. They were replaced by Esteban Ocon from Alpine and Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman, who had already made substitute appearances for the team in 2024.
Haas experienced a mixed season. The team showed solid pace at times, scoring regularly and finishing with 79 points. However, it still only managed eighth place in the constructors’ championship. The standout result came from Bearman, who finished fourth in the Mexican Grand Prix.

Guenther Steiner

Guenther Steiner became a fan favourite through the Netflix series Drive to Survive. His direct communication style and visible passion made him a well-known figure in Formula 1. His presence contributed to the increased popularity and visibility of Haas within the sport.

Which engine does Haas use in Formula 1?

As a Ferrari customer team, Haas uses Ferrari power units. This remains the case in 2025, with the team running the same engine specification as Ferrari.
