Formula 1 looks set to
return in Bahrain on October 2-4, with teams expecting an official announcement before the Belgium Grand Prix. Alonso's name rumored, but Alpine has a different top candidate for 2027
Recently, there were also rumours of Alonso rejoining Alpine, with many pointing to the Spaniard being spotted alongside Flavio Briatore as a sign that a return could be on the cards. That is, however, not unusual, as the Italian remains Alonso's manager.
There is a clear candidate to continue alongside Pierre Gasly: Franco Colapinto, who has enjoyed a strong run of form so far in the 2026 season. The suggestion that Alonso would replace him should, at this stage, be dismissed as typical paddock speculation.

Ben Sulayem wants to abolish all limits to remain FIA president indefinitely
Mohammed Ben Sulayem not only wants to get rid of the maximum of three terms for a single FIA president, but would also seek through a vote to abolish all of the limits, which would then in principle allowing him to stay indefinitely at the top of the organization.
GPblog understands that the agenda for the upcoming General Assembly in Macau includes not only the proposal to remove the maximum of three terms for an FIA president. There will likely be a second, separate vote on whether all current restrictions for the sitting president can be lifted. That would concern both the number of terms and the removal of the age limit.
