Ferrari wants to continue with Dino Beganovic in 2027, the Swedish-Bosnian driver who currently competes in Formula 2. The 22-year-old will no longer be part of the Ferrari Driver Academy next year, but will remain on as a test and development driver, GPblog understands.
Dino Beganovic has been part of the Ferrari stable since 2020. Under the Italians’ wing, he developed into an upper-midfield contender in Formula 3 and Formula 2. In both feeder series, Beganovic managed to win races, but he did not seriously contend for the title.
Alongside his racing career, the Swede is active within Ferrari in the simulator and as a test driver. Moreover, he has taken part in four Formula 1 free practice sessions, allowing Ferrari to meet its obligation to give a rookie an opportunity during a Grand Prix weekend. This season, Beganovic was used in Barcelona and Austria. More sessions may follow over the course of the season.

Beganovic seems to have to forget an F1 racing career

A full-time Formula 1 seat at Ferrari is not in the cards for Beganovic. The Scuderia appreciates his efforts but does not see a place for him in one of the scarlet F1 cars. That is one reason Ferrari is not trying to place the 22-year-old temporarily at another F1 team, as it has done with Oliver Bearman and Rafael Camara, for example.

Nonetheless, Ferrari is very eager to keep Beganovic within the team. The Italians also envision a role for him in 2027 in the simulator and as a development driver, for example during Tests of Previous Cars (TPC).
Beganovic is currently in his second Formula 2 season with DAMS, but he will in principle leave that category. It is unclear where last weekend’s feature race winner in Madrid will race next. The Swede would be an ideal youth infusion for Ferrari’s team competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
