It very much appears that the Bahrain Grand Prix will still be held during the 2026 season, even though this is currently being denied through official channels. However, Formula 1 teams are strongly anticipating an announcement within the next two weeks for a Grand Prix on the first weekend of October, GPblog hears. Due to the war in the Middle East, the Grand Prix in Bahrain was taken off the Formula 1 calendar earlier this year. At the time, Formula One Management (FOM) explicitly spoke of a postponement rather than a definitive cancellation. By doing so, FOM
left open the possibility that the race would be made up at a later date, provided it was safe enough to travel to the Middle East.
F1 teams informed of plans
The situation has improved thanks to the truce between the United States and Iran. Formula 1 and Formula 2 teams have now been informed that FOM intends to schedule the Bahrain Grand Prix for the weekend of October 2–4. They are expecting an official announcement before the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Formula 3 will not be active in Bahrain.
With Bahrain back on the calendar, Formula 1 faces a triple header in the autumn. First comes the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, after which
F1 will travel to Bahrain for the rescheduled race there. A week later, the famed night race through the streets of Singapore follows.
The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - which was also postponed earlier this year - will definitely not return to the F1 calendar. There is simply no space for the race through the streets of Jeddah. If Bahrain goes ahead, the outlook is also positive for Qatar and Abu Dhabi at the end of the season. These events are, in principle, set to close out the year. There is still enough time to make a final decision on these races.
Ultimately, with Bahrain included, the Formula 1 calendar would come to 23 Grands Prix, one fewer than originally planned.
