Cadillac keeps Valtteri Bottas in the dark after Sergio Perez contract extension

With Sergio Perez's contract extension, Cadillac has filled one of its seats for the coming seasons. No decision has (yet) been made about Valtteri Bottas. GPblog understands that the Finn is still an option for 2027, but Colton Herta is also among those being considered as Perez's teammate.
Ahead of his home race, Cadillac delighted Sergio Perez's many fans with some great news. The American outfit has secured the services of the experienced driver, who is performing well this season, through 2029. It is much less certain that Valtteri Bottas will be the Mexican's teammate next season.
Bottas is currently an option for Cadillac for 2027, but the decision is certainly not yet in his favor. Although the Finn said in Austin last weekend that he was not worried, he really should be. It is certainly not out of the question that the Americans will part ways with him after 2026.

Herta in the frame to replace Bottas

Colton Herta is a serious contender to replace Bottas alongside Perez next season. The American, who made a name for himself in IndyCar, is a dream candidate for Cadillac. An American in an all-American team—that is fantastic from a PR perspective.

Does that mean Herta will definitely replace Bottas? No, GPblog understands. Cadillac is, however, doing everything it can at the moment to have a choice between at least Bottas and Herta. It is no coincidence that Herta will drive a free practice session for Cadillac in Mexico this weekend for the fifth time this season. According to the American team's calculations, Herta will then have earned 40 super licence points and will therefore be eligible to race in Grands Prix.
Frederik Vesti is certainly not Cadillac's first choice, but he is another interesting candidate. GPblog reported on Tuesday. The 24-year-old Dane has been Mercedes' Formula 1 reserve driver for several years. Vesti also races for Cadillac in IMSA events, so he knows the brand well.
