Cadillac Formula 1 Team have officially put an end to any speculation surrounding their driver line-up for the coming campaigns, confirming that Sergio 'Checo' Perez has signed a major multi-year contract extension. The new agreement binds the experienced Mexican driver to the American project until at least the end of the 2029 season.
The timing of the announcement could hardly be more important and comes ahead of this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, where Perez is gearing up to celebrate his milestone 300th Grand Prix start right in front of his home crowd.
To kick off the festivities in style, Perez took to the streets of Mexico City for an electric show run along the iconic Paseo de la Reforma, greeted by hundreds of thousands of passionate local supporters before turning focus to the competitive sessions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Since joining the brand-new American outfit for its historic debut campaign on the Formula 1 grid, the six-time Grand Prix winner has proven to be an valuable asset. Cadillac’s engineering and technical leadership have repeatedly highlighted the veteran’s technical feedback and seasoned race craft, which have played a crucial role in accelerating chassis development and refining trackside procedures.
Speaking about his decision to commit his long-term future to the American outfit, Perez, who was linked with a switch to Williams, made it clear that he retains full faith in the vision laid out by the squad’s hierarchy, despite their slow start to life in F1.

“Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” said Perez. “Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.
“I want to thank Dan (Towriss), Mark (Reuss), and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the US, the UK, and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing!”
For Cadillac, locking down a driver of Perez's pedigree eliminates driver-market distractions and ensures technical continuity across critical regulation cycles. Cadillac Formula 1 Team CEO Dan Towriss underlined the significance of securing Perez's services for the foreseeable future as the team looks toward its next phase of development.

“On the eve of a special weekend in Mexico City, we’re thrilled to announce that Checo will remain an integral part of Cadillac Formula 1 Team for years to come,” he said.
“Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year. Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid.”
