Aston Martin (full name: Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team) is a British Formula 1 team based in Silverstone. The team is owned by businessman Lawrence Stroll, whose son Lance Stroll holds a seat within the team. Since 2023, he has been partnered by two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
Aston Martin F1
The history of Aston Martin in Formula 1 dates back many years. It originally began as Eddie Jordan’s team, Jordan Grand Prix. Under that name, the team competed until 2005, after which it changed ownership—and name—multiple times. It was briefly known as Midland F1 Racing, before becoming Spyker F1 in 2007. That, too, lasted only a year. The team then became Force India, where it remained for several seasons until financial issues arose. Sergio Perez, then a driver for the team, played a key role in its survival by placing it into administration.
The team was subsequently acquired by Lawrence Stroll, who rebranded it as Racing Point. In 2020, Stroll purchased a significant stake in Aston Martin and renamed the team once again. The team achieved its first podium since returning with a second-place finish by Sebastian Vettel at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. In 2023, Fernando Alonso replaced Vettel and secured multiple podium finishes that season, including a third place in Bahrain, marking the team’s strongest campaign to date.
Aston Martin 2026
From 2026, Aston Martin will switch to Honda power units, following the Japanese manufacturer’s split from Red Bull. Adrian Newey will take on the role of team principal while continuing his technical responsibilities. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will remain the driver pairing. The team has invested heavily in recent years, and the new 2026 regulations could present an opportunity to move forward.
Newey as Aston Martin team principal
At the end of 2025, Aston Martin confirmed that Adrian Newey would become team principal from 2026, replacing Andy Cowell. Cowell transitioned into the role of Chief Strategy Officer. Newey made it clear that his new position would not reduce his involvement in the technical development of the car.
Aston Martin 2025
The arrival of Adrian Newey marked a major step in the team’s development. The renowned designer joined from Red Bull Racing in March 2025, after being with the team since 2005. With the 2025 car already developed, Newey focused on refining details for Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Andy Cowell also joined as team principal, replacing Mike Krack.
The 2025 season was inconsistent for Aston Martin, with performance varying significantly between circuits. Updates occasionally improved the car, but Newey’s main focus was on the 2026 project. The team finished seventh in the constructors’ championship with 89 points. The best result was Alonso’s fifth place in Hungary.
Aston Martin F1 drivers 2026
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will continue as Aston Martin’s driver line-up in 2026. Stroll has been with the team since 2019, when it was still Racing Point. Alonso joined in 2023 as Sebastian Vettel’s replacement and enjoyed a strong first season, securing eight podium finishes.
Which engine does Aston Martin use in F1?
Since 2009, the team—then known as Force India—used Mercedes power units. That partnership continued through the hybrid era. From 2026, Aston Martin will switch to Honda engines.
Max Verstappen to Aston Martin?
During 2025, speculation emerged about a potential move of Max Verstappen to Aston Martin for 2026, with reports suggesting a massive financial offer. Verstappen confirmed in Hungary that he would remain with Red Bull Racing in 2026. Whether such an offer was formally made remains unclear.
Gianpiero Lambiase to Aston Martin?
After the 2025 season, speculation also surrounded the future of Gianpiero Lambiase, Verstappen’s race engineer at Red Bull. Initial reports linked him to a possible management role at Aston Martin, but this scenario later appeared unlikely.
Aston Martin F1 Lego
In 2024, during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, LEGO showcased Formula 1 models as part of a collaboration with the sport. Sets of the Aston Martin F1 car, based on the 2024 design, remain available.
Aston Martin Valkyrie of Verstappen
Before becoming an F1 team, Aston Martin was a title sponsor of Red Bull Racing. As part of that partnership, Max Verstappen received an Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, valued at around €2.5 million.
