Aston Martin is in no rush to sign a driver: 'It's about waiting now'

Aston Martin is willing to wait for Fernando Alonso's decision on his future, Mike Krack reaffirmed at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Speaking in Madrid, Aston Martin's Chief Trackside Officer was clear that the team wants to retain Alonso for the upcoming campaign. The Silverstone-based team is willing to wait for the former two-time world champion's decision.
He explained: "Well, you have to ask him how serious [he is about retirement]. I mean, at the end of the day, I think we were clear always the team wants to continue [with Alonso].
"I think we have made it clear all through, but we need to respect what Fernando's thoughts are. We need to respect, you know, the time he wants to take. And I said before, we are confident we can reach a good solution for everybody. And now it's about waiting. You know, he needs to make up his mind, and then we move on."

Earlier this week, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem vowed to keep Alonso in the competition. When asked about the Emirati's comments, Krack continued: "He (Alonso, ed.) made it clear that it is not one single thing that he wants to see change. And, yeah, I read about these discussions as well.
"So I think the sport needs someone like that. I think we will all be keen to see Fernando continue. And what can be what can be done to accommodate that, I think it will be done. And then and then I hope we find a good solution and continue."
No Plan B shared by Aston Martin
Krack also expected to be asked whether Aston Martin has a Plan B, but the Luxembourger explained that the team is only focusing on Alonso at the moment.
"I will not give you any names, I will also not speak about any Plan B. So all the next ones that asks that, I will give you the same answer. We very hope that Fernando will continue.

"He's very, very important for our team. He's very important for Formula 1. He's very important for the whole sport and then motorsport in general. So it would be a pity to not have him anymore. And because that would be so dramatic, I do not even want to talk about it or think about it."
