Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson has stated how "dangerous" his near-miss was with the marshals at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing."

During the first lap of the Grand Prix around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the New Zealander collided with Carlos Sainz in a wild start that saw four cars go into turn 1.
After Lawson was forced to come into the pits to change his damaged front wing, yellow flags waved as a result of some debris that was on the track.
When he emerged from the pits far behind the rest of the grid, Lawson entered turn 1 and saw two marshals running across the circuit, with a treacherous near-miss only just averted, with audible shock from the 3-year-old voiced over the radio at the incident.

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing," stated Lawson in the paddock after the Grand Prix.
"I boxed, came out on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn 1, and there were two dudes just running across the track. I nearly had one of them.
"Honestly, it was so dangerous. Obviously, there's been a miscommunication somewhere, but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past, so it's pretty unacceptable."

Decisions questioned in Mexico

After the Grand Prix, the FIA released a statement explaining their decision-making regarding the near-miss between the marshals and Lawson's Racing Bull machine, along with the late virtual safety car that was brought out due to Sainz's retirement late in the race.
"We would like to underline our respect and appreciation for the local ASN, OMDAI, as well as the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and their marshals, who are volunteers and play a vital role in the safe and successful running of our sport," was what the statement had to say.
"Their professionalism and dedication are invaluable to every event we stage."

Lawson also confirmed that he and Racing Bulls will be requesting an explanation for what occurred early on in the race.
"Yeah, for sure. We obviously can't understand how on a live track, the marshals can be allowed to just run across the track like that.
"So yeah, I have no idea why, but I'm sure we'll get some explanation, but it really can't happen again."
