The Formula 1 calendar is becoming increasingly crowded. Next year there are no less than 24 races on the calendar, this year the plan was also to hold 24 races, but due to flooding during the GP weekend in Imola, the Grand Prix there did not take place and also the Chinese GP was canceled for the fourth year in succession. As a result, there will be 'only' 22 races in 2023. Until when do all these circuits have a contract with Formula 1?

Expiring contracts after 2024

Five circuits' contracts with Formula 1 will expire after next year. These include the races in Japan and Azerbaijan, but also the historic races at Monza, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps will no longer have a contract after the end of 2024. Of these, the latter has been uncertain of a spot on the F1 calendar for several years. In 2022, it was extended by just one year and this year too, the commitment has been extended by just one year.

Traditional Tracks

The Grand Prix in Britain is a definite spot on the calendar until 2024, and it's likely a deal to extend Silverstone as a circuit on the Formula 1 calendar will be arranged. Some of the other traditional tracks on the calendar, such as Belgium, Italy, Britain, Japan and Monaco, are also having their contracts run out soon.

New F1 trend?

A new trend seems to be emerging in terms of Formula 1 circuit contracts: more and more circuits have very long commitments. For instance, the Grands Prix of Austria, Hungary and Qatar, among others, and six more GPs are guaranteed a spot on the Formula 1 calendar through 2030 or even longer. The Bahrain Grand Prix holds the longest contract, its commitment running until no less than 2036.
