Lando Norris was cautiously optimistic about McLaren's chances at the Miami Grand Prix. The Briton believes some good racing could be on the cards this weekend. McLaren has a strong record in Miami. Norris took his first-ever Grand Prix victory there in 2024, and
Oscar Piastri was victorious last year. According to the Briton, the team can carry over plenty from its success despite the new regulations this year.
Speaking to a select group of media, including GPblog, he said: "In some ways it doesn't change too many things. It was obviously a track that we performed very well at as well as a team, not just as drivers over the past couple of years. Last year was one of our best tracks of the season in terms of pace comparing to others.
In Japan, McLaren could be in the mix with Mercedes and Ferrari, and Piastri scored the team's first podium as well. Norris continued: "It's a different track and it might still just suit the car a little bit more than some other places. Japan certainly suited the car a little bit more than the first couple of races, but how it will change things, I don't know. We kind of have to wait and see in some ways."
Exciting race could be on the cards
According to the defending world champion, the layout can also make the upcoming weekend an exciting one. He added: "A lot of the corners are still going to have a high speed of first sector and you're still going to have the very slow speed middle sector. And in some ways because of how the straights are placed and the corners, you could still have actually some pretty good racing in terms of how you can use the battery and save the battery. But if you use it quite often you know the guy's going to come back past you the next straight... It could be great, and hopefully it is, you kind of have to wait and see."
