Thunderstorms could turn the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix on its head

It’s race week once again. Following a month-long break due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, Formula 1 returns this weekend with the Miami Grand Prix. After rain impacted last year’s event, similar conditions are expected again on Sunday.

According to Weather.com, Friday will be hot and partly cloudy, with temperatures reaching 31°C and only a 6% chance of rain. The day will feature the only free practice session and sprint qualifying. On Saturday, temperatures are expected to be a single degree Celsius higher. The Sprint and qualifying for the main race will take place, with mostly sunny conditions forecast, although the chance of rain increases to 19%.

Weather.com predicts thunderstorms for Sunday morning in Miami Gardens, with a strong chance they will continue into the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach 28°C, with a 70% chance of rain.

There will be more on-track action for fans in Miami this weekend. FP1 will be extended to 90 minutes instead of the usual 60. Additionally, to avoid a three-month break in its calendar, Formula 2 will also race at the Miami International Autodrome.
