Zak Brown believes Laurent Mekies is capable of putting Red Bull back on the right path, with severe weather conditions also expected for the Miami Grand Prix. Recap the best stories of the day with GPblog below! Brown backs Mekies
The McLaren CEO refuses to rule out Red Bull despite the Milton Keynes-based team's difficulties so far in 2026 and the departure of multiple key figures. Brown also sees similarities with when he arrived at McLaren and believes Mekies has the skills to take on the challenge.
He told GPblog among others:"I think they have to kind of do a little bit of a reset, right? They lost a lot of people, Christian [Horner], [Jonathan] Wheatley, GP eventually, [Adrian] Newey. So I think it's similar to what I came into, which was a different situation because they were very competitive, but the majority of their pit walls changed.
"I rate Laurent. I think he does a very good job. He's technical, he's young, and I think he's got to rebuild the people that he lost and rebuild the team. And I have no doubt he will. And much like McLaren had a immense amount of talent that just needed to be unlocked, I think that's probably the same as Red Bull, they've been very dominant up to not very long ago. So there's a lot of talent in there and I think he'll just need to get it redirected," he concluded.
Weather expected to play a key role in this year's Miami Grand Prix
After a hot Friday and Saturday in Miami Gardens, Florida, some rain is expected on the final day of the weekend. Weather.com
predicts thunderstorms for Sunday morning, with a strong chance they will continue into the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach 28°C, with a 70% chance of rain.
Verstappen's teammate dreams of Nurburgring crown
Speaking exclusively to GPblog, Dani Juncadella addressed his goals for the 2026 season and his busy schedule. The Spaniard currently competes in the WEC for the new Genesis team and also drives for Verstappen Racing in the GT World Challenge Europe series and at the 24h Nurburgring.
Juncadella has another job too. He is one of Aston Martin’s simulator drivers in
Formula 1.
Due to his busy schedule, this is less of his focus at the moment.
“My priority is the Hypercar, then the GT programs. Competing is the main priority for me. I haven't been since December last year, I don't have any time. They have other simulator drivers, for sure, and fortunately, at the moment, I cannot really help."Make GPblog your preferred source on Google and see our content first in Google Discover and Google News.
