Aprilia have confirmed that the surgery for Marco Bezzecchi was successful after the Italian suffered a broken collarbone during qualifying at the German Grand Prix.
Bezzecchi, who led the championship for the vast majority of the first half of the season and won the opening three rounds, has recently suffered a dip in form as a bizarre string of events have caused his title charge crumble. While he is still not out of the fight yet, he has gone from being a clear favourite to simply being one of a number of contenders now.
At one point, Bezzecchi led by 17 points from his teammate Jorge Martin, and had a full 102 point gap over Marc Marquez. Now, the top five riders in the championship are only separate by 24 points and Marquez has eviscerated the 102 point deficit in just four weekends to now leapfrog Bezzecchi in the standings.
The German Grand Prix was always one which Marquez was favoured for due to the anti-clockwise nature of the track, but a high side during qualifying left 'Bez' unable to compete for the rest of the weekend, and forced him to undergo emergency surgery. Now that the surgery has been complete, it remains to be seen just how long it might take for the number 72 to recover.

Statement from Aprilia on Bezzecchi's recovery

Yesterday, Both Bezzecchi and Aprilia made separate statements about the surgery and recovery. The statement from the team read as follows:
"Marco Bezzecchi has undergone successful surgery performed by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini at the University Hospital of Sassuolo; the fracture of his left clavicle was reduced and stabilized. Although it is too early to define a precise recovery timeline, we hope to see Marco return to racing at the next GP at Silverstone. However, a more definitive prognosis will be delivered in the coming days based on the evolution of his clinical condition."

Bezzecchi not giving up just yet

Bezzecchi himself took to instagram to reassure fans that he is not giving up. The one positive for him is that we have now reached the summer break where he will have three weeks to recover before Silverstone. On instagram, Bezzecchi wrote the following message:

"It's a tough time, but we're tougher. Now I'm going to get fixed and get back to work. Nothing will make me give up! See you soon."
