Verstappen takes on the 2026 24h Nurburgring and leaves with "we'll be back" message
Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, the four-time Formula 1 world champion travelled to Germany to take on the 2026 24h Nurburgring in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. The Dutchman
competed alongside Lucas Auer, Dani Juncadella and Jules Gounon.
On Friday, after Auer and Verstappen completed their runs, finishing inside the top 20 and top seven in Top Qualifying 1 and Top Qualifying 2 respectively, Juncadella took on the final qualifying session. The Spaniard secured fourth place, and Mercedes was not given any further Balance of Performance (BoP) adjustments afterwards.
Verstappen Racing was leading in the final hours of the 24h Nurburgring when Juncadella reported an issue. The team subsequently confirmed a broken rear-right driveshaft, but continued working to repair the car in order to at least reach the chequered flag. In the end, they finished the race
in 37th place.
After the race, Verstappen shared a telling message on Gounon’s post. The Dutchman comforted his teammate,
writing: "We’ll be back mate."
