Max Verstappen is now set take on qualifying in the GT World Challenge Europe series at Portimao with his own team. This is when the #3 Mercedes-AMG car will be in action today.
Qualifying will begin at 17:55 local time at the Portuguese circuit, with the first group heading out on track.
In this series, all sessions are split into two groups. Group A will feature the Bronze and Silver Cup cars, while Group B will feature the Pro and Gold Cup competitors. This means the earliest Max Verstappen could take to the track is 18:05 GMT.
How does qualifying work?
That does not necessarily mean Verstappen will begin driving at 18:05. Each GT3 team consists of three drivers, with one driver taking part in each of Q1, Q2 and Q3. After Q1 and Q2, no teams or drivers will be eliminated based on their lap times.

Moreover, Verstappen cannot just single-handedly claim pole position for tomorrow. The grid will be ordered based on the average lap times of all three drivers. Therefore, in order to secure the best grid position, Verstappen, Ben Barnicoat and Chris Lulham all have to perform well. You can watch the qualifying session live here!
