Porsche has announced it will withdraw from participating in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) following the conclusion of the 2025 season.
The German outfit described the move as part of a comprehensive realignment of its racing programme. In its announcement, Porsche detailed that it will now shift its focus to two factory motorsport projects – the FIA Formula E World Championship and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
This development comes amid recent speculation suggesting the team was considering pulling the plug on its participation in endurance racing.

“We very much regret that, due to the current circumstances, we will not be continuing our involvement in the WEC after this season,” said Dr Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Development at Porsche AG.
“We use motorsport as a development platform for future technology and to illustrate the potential of our sports cars,” added Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport.
“With the Porsche 963 in the North American IMSA series and the Porsche 99X Electric in the Formula E World Championship, we want to continue fighting for overall victories in the future. That is our tradition and our focus.”
Porsche’s achievements in the WEC
Since its venture into the WEC, with Penske serving as its service provider, the German outfit has recorded considerable success in the series.
During the 2024 campaign, Porsche clinched the Drivers’ Championship title in the Hypercar category, with the No. 6 car crew – Kevin Estre, Andre Lotterer, and Laurens Vanthoor – finishing the season in first place.
The team also secured second place in the 2024 Hypercar World Endurance Manufacturers’ Championship.

While Porsche has now officially announced its withdrawal from the WEC ahead of 2026, the Porsche Penske outfit could still end the 2025 campaign on a high, with its No. 6 crew remaining in title contention ahead of the final race of the season in Bahrain.
