The Dutch driver labelled the Team Principal as being too nice when asked about his contribution to the team since joining the team in the lead-up to the Belgian Grand Prix. Verstappen also highlighted how the progress achieved at the Red Bull team remains largely a team effort.
Verstappen said: “I think Laurent is probably being too nice in that sense. But at the end of the day, what is very good is that we just approach it as a proper team effort.
"We always tried to look into the details. We tried to understand what our weaknesses were,” he stated.
The four-time world champion also explained how the team’s direction have become clearer under Mekies' leadership.

“Since a few races, it’s definitely picked up a lot. Maybe now it was not as good as last race weekend, but sometimes you come out of a race just a bit lost, not really understanding why or how. I do think that now we understand why or how we can be better. By asking the right questions, including Laurent being involved in that, it’s just working well,” he concluded.

Mekies' stint so far at Red Bull Racing

Since Mekies joined the team ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa, the Red Bull Racing outfit have witnessed a turn in fortune. The team have recorded two race victories and multiple podium finishes since the race at the Ardennes Forest.
At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the team recorded its best points haul of the campaign so far, with Verstappen storming to victory and Yuki Tsunoda finishing in sixth place.
The recent progress was also carried off to the outing in Singapore, where Verstappen again finished on the podium, fending off the charge of McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
