Jos Verstappen has revealed he will never seek to be a co-driver in rally races, not even with his son, Max Verstappen. "I personally would never want to sit next to someone else, not even next to Max.”
- Jos VerstappenThe 53-year-old, speaking via
Formula 1 Magazine, praised the role of co-drivers in rally racing but admitted he would not be interested in taking on such a role, not even with his son.
"Every day I get up, I pray a Hail Mary. As a driver, you know the risks, but sincerely, I think as a navigator, you have to be even more daring. I personally would never want to sit next to someone else, not even next to Max.”
While Max Verstappen continues to etch his name into Formula 1’s storied history, his father Jos – a former
F1 driver – remains active in rally racing. Only recently, the
father of the Red Bull Racing star clinched the Belgian Rally Championship alongside co-driver Renaud Jamoul.

Verstappen speaks on his father’s rally exploits
Earlier,
Verstappen reacted to footage of his father racing in a rally. The Dutch driver labelled his father as crazy after seeing a clip of one of his daring moves.
In the video, Verstappen Snr clocked a staggering 270 kilometres per hour while airborne in the rally car. Verstappen, who was asked about the video by Viaplay, laughed before calling his father “completely crazy.”
It is worth noting that Verstappen is not the only F1 driver whose father actively competes in rally racing.
Carlos Sainz also has his father, Carlos Sainz Snr, competing in the Dakar Rally. Earlier, the
Williams driver shared footage of himself trying out his father’s Ford Raptor T1+ rally car.
