Sam Bird has revealed that he would have done exactly what Lewis Hamilton did following the incident with his brakes during the Singapore Grand Prix. “If I were in the same position, I would have continued.”
- Sam BirdThe former Mercedes reserve driver, who appeared on a recent episode of the Chequered Flag podcast, backed the seven-time world champion for his decision to continue driving despite losing his brakes. Bird also explained that he would have crossed the line and waited for the stewards’ verdict if he were in Hamilton’s shoes.
“The question is, should you continue if you’ve got no brakes? Is that deemed dangerous? Did Lewis do the right thing?” Bird said.
“I would continue with a lap to go. If I were in the same position, I would have continued and crossed the line and let the stewards decide on what they want to do. I think that Lewis did the right thing, but I can completely see why Fernando went irate.”
