Andrea Kimi Antonelli has explained how his emotions got the better of him during the Singapore GP qualifying. “My emotions took over, and I just started to drive a bit tense.”
- Kimi Antonelli The young Italian, after
clinching fourth place during the session, complained that he began to drive quite tensely, especially after realising he was within reach of taking pole position, which proved to be over the limits, thus it played a part in him missing out on the front row.
He said: “My emotions took over, and I just started to drive a bit tense, because I felt I had a real shot at least at the front row, because we were quick. But then I started to overdrive.
“I started to push more and more, carrying a lot of speed into the corners. But it was just too much over the limit.”

Antonelli’s qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix
Kimi Antonelli experienced a rollercoaster of a session during the qualifying session that would eventually see him secure a fourth-place starting spot for the Grand Prix.
The 19-year-old found himself staring at possible elimination in Q1 after being forced to abandon a crucial push lap. He was also investigated for an impeding incident involving Carlos Sainz during the same session. The Mercedes driver then faced another setback in Q2, as his lap time was deleted for exceeding track limits.
However, despite the self-admitted emotionality in his last run, it was good enough for a P4 finish under the Singapore night sky.
