The Jerez test has concluded with some encouraging signs for several teams as they now look ahead to a busy European summer schedule. So far, Aprilia have led the way as the standout team on the grid this season, ending Ducati's long reign of dominance and launching a serious title threat over the opening four rounds. Alex Marquez leads after Session 1
It was the younger Marquez who once again stole the show during the morning session, just as he had done throughout most of the weekend. After winning the Sunday race by a comfortable margin, the Gresini rider topped Session 1 with a time of 1:36.394 ahead of Johann Zarco and
Francesco Bagnaia.
With the exception of
Honda's Johann Zarco, who also rode well throughout the weekend, the Top 10 was largely made up of the familiar Ducati and Aprilia riders, with the only noticeable outlier being Franco Morbidelli down in P16.
Yamaha clearly didn't manage to find many extra gains during the morning test as all four of their riders were outside the top 10 -
Fabio Quartararo was the highest ranked in P13.
Crashes for Diogo Moreria and
Toprak Razgatlioglu certainly didn't help their morning sessions, but both riders were okay after their respective incidents.
Ogura tops Session 2 ahead of Fernandez and Bezzecchi
The afternoon session was slightly different story and saw a number of wild aero setups and experiments for likes of Aprilia and KTM. In the end it was the Trackhouse duo of Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez who finished the session on top, with championship leader
Marco Bezzecchi rounding out the Top 3.
Marc Marquez was the highest-placed Ducati, manging to finish within 0.004 of Bezzecchi. Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta managed to find some postitive setup changes after his relatively lacklustre weekend
There were some encouraging signs for Yamaha and Fabio Quartararo at the end of a difficult Spanish GP - the Frenchman put in a time of 1:36.439, his fastest of the entire week.
