Toprak was born the son of Turkish motorcycle racer “Tek Teker” (Wheelie) Arif Tazgatlioglu. He competed in the Red Bull Rookie Cup in 2013 and 2014 before competing in the support-class European Superstock 600 Championship, which he won.
After his father was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2017, Toprak joined the Superbike World Championship in 2018 riding a Kawasa Ninja ZX-10R. His good performances caught the attention of Yamaha, who signed him for the 2020 Superbike season. Toprak would go on to win the championship with Yamaha in his second season before finishing as runner-up in 2022 and 2023 behind the dominant Ducati.
For the 2024 season, Toprak made the surprise move to join BMW, largely considered an inferior bike to the Yamaha he was already aboard. However, Toprak put the doubts to rest and claimed incredible back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, making him a three-time Superbike World Champion.
His performances and his uniquely impressive riding style caught the attention of Yamaha’s MotoGP outfit, who signed him for their Pramac satellite team for the 2026 season.
