Former Ducati title challenger Andrea Dovizioso has weighed in on the current dip in form for the Italian factory, and in particular for their reigning champion Marc Marquez. In a recent interview with Moto.it, "Dovi" gave his insight on several areas in MotoGP ranging from Marquez's 'unfixable' arm injury and
Marco Bezzecchi's current form with
Aprilia to
Toprak's adaptation from superbikes.
"Marc isn't one to complain and he's never made excuses." said Dovizioso, "So the truth about his situation and how many problems he has, especially those who don't support him, have never really taken him seriously. But his situation, in my opinion, is much more serious than it seems."
"Last year he managed to win a championship, certainly not at 100%, he's a long way off. And perhaps with the crash in Indonesia he further increased this arm limitation that I don't think can be fixed."
"Austin was the definitive confirmation; in a place where he could have made a difference, he couldn't."
As for the rise of Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi, who have rapidly emerged as
the standout force in MotoGP this year - particularly enhanced by the return of
Jorge Martin to full fitness after his disastrous 2025 season with the team.
"We have a real chance with the two Aprilia riders. The championship is very long, a lot can happen, but they have a great chance because they've managed to improve. The riders are strange, and Marc isn't 100%. It's definitely opening up a window."
As for his assessment of Turkey's
Toprak Razgatlioglu, Dovi was very impressed with how he has been able to perform in the opening three rounds of the season:
"Toprak isn't riding the bike perfectly because he hasn't yet adapted to the tires; he's not riding the way the tires ask you to. And yet, he's competing with other winning and very strong Yamaha riders. That's the surprise. No one expected it in Austin, and he even managed to do better than Fabio, an outrageous talent."
