Jorge Martin

Jorge Martin, nicknamed ‘The Martinator’ for his daring, precise and aggressive riding style, made history in 2024 as the first non-factory team rider to win the MotoGP World Championship since Valentino Rossi achieved the feat with Nastro Azzuro Honda back in 2001.
Having started out at the Mahindra Moto3 team, Martin later joined the Honda-powered Del Conca Gresini Moto3 team where he won the championship in 2018 with a total of seven race victories.
In Moto2, racing for Red Bull KTM Ajo, he achieved a 5th place finish in the 2020 overall season standings, which was enough to earn him promotion to Ducati’s satellite Pramac team for the 2021 MotoGP season.
Martin started his premier class career very strongly with a victory in his rookie season at the Styrian Grand Prix in Austria, as well as a podium in just his second ever MotoGP race in Qatar.
The following year, Martin demonstrated his tenacity by coming back from seven retirements in the first nine races to score several podiums and points finishes which ultimately led him to a championship finish of ninth.
In 2023 he began to truly contest for the MotoGP title, narrowly missing out to Pecco Bagnaia on the final race of the season when he collided with Marc Marquez while trying to make up places after an earlier mistake.
He avenged his defeat the following year with a remarkably consistent season, winning three races and seven sprints which earned him the moniker of “Sprint King”, along with another 13 main-race podiums.
As reigning champion, Martin was denied a factory Ducati seat and decided instead to transfer to the Aprilia team for 2025. The season was the darkest in the Spaniard’s career as he suffered a multitude of severe injuries which sidelined him for the majority of the year.

Martin’s 2024 Championship Victory

2024 was all about revenge for Martin, who had come so close to the championship the prior year only to miss out in cruel and unfortunate circumstances. He rectified any faults with astonishing consistency, and while he may not have won as many races as Bagnaia that season, his constant podium results and sprint victories were enough to carry him to his maiden MotoGP championship.

The Aprilia Saga

The 2025 season was a roller coaster for Martin and the Aprilia team. After a dramatic high-side in testing, Martin was forced to sit out the first few rounds of the season and returned in Qatar where he suffered even worse injuries.
Whilst he was out injured, rumours began to circulate that Martin wanted out of his Aprilia contract, despite only completing a handful of laps aboard the new bike. The public dispute between rider and manufacturer was eventually resolved ahead of Martin’s return in the Czech Republic, where he rode through his injuries to an impressive seventh place finish. He then followed up with an even better fourth-place in Hungary and a top ten in Catalonia, but was later injured again in a big crash in the Japanese sprint.
Martin’s miserable fortunes were compounded by the fact that his teammate Marco Bezzechi, largely considered to be the inferior rider at the start of the year, was making incredible progress with Aprilia, winning multiple races and scoring consistent podiums for the team.
