Drivers' new worry flagged amid Bearman's heavy Japan GP crash

Alex Albon says that Oliver Bearman’s incident in Suzuka doesn’t just worry the drivers coming from behind.
The Haas F1 driver was involved in a big incident at the Japanese Grand Prix. Bearman had to take evasive action and, as a result, went onto the grass, losing control of his car and colliding with the barrier at the Spoon corner at the Suzuka Circuit.

When asked about how to prevent these situations from happening, Albon found it hard to answer.

"Tricky for sure. Not sure what the fix is though. We're actually talking about that in the driver's briefing, just about what, closing speeds and defending and moving and all these kind of things is," he explained at the Suzuka Circuit.

Albon highlights another worrying thing for drivers

The Williams driver also pointed out that, due to the possibility of similar incidents, drivers ahead on the track are unsure how to defend without risking contact with faster cars approaching from behind.
The Thai-British driver continued: "It feels really awkward now, because you want to defend, but you're sometimes worried that the car behind, if they're in control of their car.

"Maybe we just need to make SLM itself a bit more stable or less powerful or something like that. More like a regular DRS that you can control quite easily. I don't know," Albon concluded.
