McLaren CEO Zak Brown has provided an update on Lando Norris’ participation in the final practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix.
The reigning world champion encountered a problem with the Energy Recovery System (ERS) on his car just minutes before FP3 was set to begin. The Woking-based outfit had initially cast doubt over Norris’ ability to take part in the session. However, Brown has now offered clarification on the situation.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the 54-year-old explained that there is still a chance the British driver could hit the track, as the team works to resolve what has been diagnosed as a battery issue.
"There is a chance. He is definitely going to lose a lot of the session. It is a battery issue. Mercedes HPP are changing it now. It's a battery issue. I haven't been debriefed if it's the same issue (to China), but it certainly is a battery issue."
Norris’ battery troubles come after he suffered a similar problem ahead of the race at the previous Chinese Grand Prix, highlighting the ongoing challenges he has faced this season.
