Ferrari's Sporting Director Diego Ioverno knows that his team have 'plenty to do' to catch McLaren after the opening day of practice at the Japanese Grand Prix.
It comes after Lando Norris finished behind the Mercedes pair of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli at the end of FP1, before Oscar Piastri found some impressive pace to end FP2 in P1.
Charles Leclerc could only finish the second practice session in P5, while Lewis Hamilton finished a tenth behind and in P6 and admitted to feeling 'uncomfortable' behind the wheel of his Ferrari.

Improvements needed for the Scuderia

"I think it was quite a linear session for us, no big dramas. Obviously, there are some difficulties that we have to overcome for tomorrow, but it is more or less the picture we were expecting," Ioverno explained to F1TV after Friday's proceedings.
"I think in, let's say quali trim or what is similar to quali trim and low fuel, McLaren has been strong in the first two races. So, more or less, they are where we were thinking they would have been. We see that with the evolution of the weekend.
"There is some job that we have to try to do, and Lewis will hopefully gain confidence, and also Charles was struggling a bit. We'll see what we can do tomorrow."

Shocking speed loss from super-clipping

FP2 also brought about some damming telemetry stats regarding super-clipping in Suzuka.
After Hamilton and Russell both had some strong words regarding the issue, it was revealed that an average of 53.4 KPH was lost between 130R and the final chicane.
Nico Hulkenberg lost the least amount of speed, while Alpine's Franco Colapinto saw 70 KPH of speed lost through that section of the track.
