McLaren have suffered another setback with Lando Norris’ car ahead of the final practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix. The reigning world champion is now at risk of missing FP3 after the Woking-based outfit identified an issue with the Energy Recovery System (ERS). The team are working against the clock in Suzuka to resolve the problem during the session.
In its statement announcing the issue with Norris’ car, McLaren stated:
“The team have identified an issue with the ERS pack, which now needs to be replaced. It’s unlikely Lando will participate in FP3, but we are still working on the car.”
It’s worth noting that this is not the only issue Norris has encountered over the weekend in Japan. During the first practice session, the 26-year-old failed to log as much mileage as he would have liked, largely due to changes to his car.
Additionally, his outing in China culminated in a DNS after he and teammate
Oscar Piastri suffered an electrical issue with their power units.
