Future of Kvyat at AlphaTauri dependent on Tsunoda? ''Maybe''

Pierre Gasly is perhaps the surprise of 2020. After a successful conclusion in 2019, the Frenchman will continue his strong line at AlphaTauri in 2020, causing headaches at Red Bull Racing, but indirectly also for Daniil Kvyat.

Gasly back in good shape

At the end of 2018, the party was held at the Gasly House. The Frenchman was told that he would replace Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull Racing in 2019. After one year in F1, he already made a step to a top team. However, it became a nightmare, because teammate Max Verstappen turns out to be to strong and Gasly struggled in the midfield.
After six months Gasly is pushed aside again and Alexander Albon gets the chance. However, he doesn't do much better now at Red Bull, where the Frenchman has found his form again at AlphaTauri. ''We need a team leader at AlphaTauri and he does it flawlessly'', Helmut Marko praises Motorsport-magazin.com.

Has Kvyat lost his place?

''We were surprised he was having such a hard time with Red Bull. He was strong in Formula 2 and also in Japan and at Toro Rosso he did an excellent job. After that it was difficult for him at Red Bull, but now he feels good in the AlphaTauri area again. So it's good for him and also for us if he stays there as a leader," says Marko, who doesn't want to say much about Kvyat.
''We're not halfway through the season yet, so that's a bit early to speculate.'' Asked if Kvyat's position depends on the development of Tsunoda, Marko remains mysterious with 'maybe'. ''If he becomes fourth in the rankings he will have enough points for his super license'', Marko only says about it.
