Renault drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo have said that the Friday practice sessions had been good for the team despite not being “able to learn much” due to the weather.

After a tough weekend in Germany that saw both cars DNF and an incident earlier in the week involving one their trucks crashing it was about time Renault had a positive day.

Hulkenberg said in Renaults review: “Despite the changing circumstances, it was a great day for us today.

“The car feels good and we seem to be in a good position.

“We have not been able to learn very much, but that applies to everyone and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

“The fast run felt really good, so I'm curious.”

While teammate Ricciardo added that the morning provided some “useful laps” but is looking ahead to Saturday.

He said: “It was pretty good today, despite the bad weather.

“We had a good morning with some useful laps, but we still have to go to bed tonight to take steps.

“With the chance of rain during qualifying, we want to be there.”
