Max Verstappen has won his seventh race in a row at the Hungarian Grand Prix, in a weekend that did not even go completely smoothly for the Dutchman. Verstappen therefore did not get a 10, but that figure is handed out to another driver. Read the GPblog figures of the race weekend in Hungary here.

Verstappen: 9

Max Verstappen dominated the race at the Hungaroring on Sunday but made it a little more difficult for himself on Saturday. Verstappen missed pole by three-thousandths of a second, while a better lap was possible for the Red Bull driver. He could have gone more than two-tenths faster, which disappointed Verstappen. He made up for it on Sunday at the start and then disappeared on the horizon.

Norris: 10

The man of the weekend was Lando Norris, who performed excellently on behalf of McLaren. On Saturday, Lando was very strong; on Sunday, he overtook Hamilton on the outside in turn two. This made his race, after which he also managed to keep Sergio Perez at bay in the much faster RB19 in the final phase.

Perez: 7

Sergio Perez was four-tenths slower than Verstappen in qualifying on Saturday and only finished ninth on the grid. If you see what Verstappen can do with the RB19, you always have to finish second as a teammate. Perez couldn't. He did, however, repair the damage with a great catch-up race on Sunday by still driving to third place. Especially the (controlled) aggressive way he overtook looked good.

Hamilton: 9

In a phenomenal lap, Lewis Hamilton again showed on Saturday why he is the man with the pole record (104 pole positions) to his name. Especially given the performance of his teammate, Hamilton deserves kudos. However, on Sunday, it was also clear that he had lost some sharpness in racecraft. That he lost the start to Verstappen is still acceptable, but the way he was passed on the outside by his younger compatriot must hurt. Especially when considering that that may have cost him the podium in Hungary.

Piastri: 7

As a rookie, Oscar Piastri continues to impress at McLaren. Yes, he is slower in qualifying than Norris and was less pace than his team-mate in the race, but the Australian is close and ridiculously mature for his age. How he handled the team's strategic decision and the duel with Perez is commendable.

Russell: 5

George Russell should have entered the battle at the front but failed to get through Q1 on Saturday. A big blow for the young driver, especially given the pole position of his teammate. On Sunday, Russell came through the field well, but that was no longer enough to assist Hamilton in the duel with the McLarens.

Leclerc: 6

Charles Leclerc qualified more than a tenth better than his teammate on Saturday and made it through to Q3. On Sunday, Sainz was quickly in his mirrors, but Sainz was not helped by his team on soft tyres. Leclerc did get that help later in the race. As Ferrari's second driver, he had the chance to pass his teammate with an undercut. Maybe he got it as a saving grace after the slow nine-second pitstop…

Sainz: 6

He was slower than his team-mate in qualifying but got in the way on Sunday by his own team. On soft tyres, Sainz was stuck behind his teammate in the first stint before being let down by his team later in the race. Then the Spaniard was in front of Leclerc, but the latter got the advantage of an undercut.

Alonso: 7

Fernando Alonso was four-tenths faster than his teammate on Saturday and drove a solid race. This happened in the background because Aston Martin was much less competitive in Hungary.

Stroll: 6

Lance Stroll was quite a bit slower than his teammate in qualifying but, with a detour, ended up where he should finish this weekend.

Albon: 7

Alexander Albon again missed out on the points but again pulled the weight on behalf of Williams. On Saturday, the Thai was again three-tenths faster than his teammate, keeping his unbeaten status in the qualifying game intact. Unfortunately for Albon, it didn't always mean points in the race.

Bottas: 6

Valtteri Bottas was narrowly beaten by his teammate on Saturday and had a problem with the start on Sunday. However, this had to do with the car and not the driver. Bottas then drove a decent race but didn't attack much. It looked like there was something more to it than a twelfth place this weekend.

Ricciardo: 7

Daniel Ricciardo didn't blow everyone away with his return to Formula 1, but the fact that he beat Tsunoda in qualifying and the race in his first race weekend is encouraging. The race pace was especially good, especially considering that Ricciardo was off the track in turn one of the first lap due to a tap from Zhou.

Hulkenberg: 8

Nico Hulkenberg impressed again on Saturday by reaching Q3. Especially the difference compared to his teammate in qualifying (more than five-tenths up in Q1, where Magnussen was eliminated) is impressive. On Sunday, Haas did not have the pace.

Tsunoda: 6

Yuki Tsunoda was the better all season at AlphaTauri but was beaten by his new teammate this weekend. It was close in qualifying, but the Japanese will have to work. If he loses this game, there is a good chance he will also lose his seat with the team.

Zhou: 6

Guanyu Zhou drove the qualifying of his life, but everything was ruined in the first 700 meters towards Turn 1. The start was due to an issue with his car, but Zhou completely wrecked the rest of his race by braking. Understandably, he was no longer completely relaxed in the car, but due to his contact, two Alpines dropped out, and Ricciardo was also sentenced to a catch-up race. Zhou went from hero to zero very quickly.

Magnussen: 5

Kevin Magnussen didn't make it through to Q2 as his fastest lap was no less than five-tenths slower than his teammate's. On Sunday, there is nothing to be gained, but the Dane will have to work if he wants his expiring contract to be extended.

Sargeant: 5

Logan Sargeant was once again slower than his teammate on Saturday and Sunday and also made the broadcast during the race in a way you don't want. After Sargeant delivered a messy qualifying lap, he also spun in the chicane on Sunday. The American lost some places, and above all, it looked very clumsy.

Ocon: 6

Esteban Ocon was faster than his teammate on Saturday but was already out of the race because of Zhou after only a lap.

Gasly: 6

Although Pierre Gasly was slower than his teammate in qualifying, he never had the chance to recover that during the race.
