Despite a torrid couple of races, Francesco Bagnaia is still Mr. Positive when it comes to the remainder of the MotoGP season.
The two-time premier class champion had earlier recorded four-straight podium finishes and a sprint victory, but then retired in the Netherlands before a disappointing sixth in Germany.
As such, he sits eighth in the riders’ championship, 65 points off leader Jorge Martin, but he isn’t giving up just yet.
Bagnaia spoke to Sky Italia about what he expects after the summer break, and cited teammate Marc Marquez’s recovery to title contention as inspiration:
“I'll spend this break quietly - relaxing, training a lot, and preparing myself to be 100 per cent ready for the next race.

“I'm happy that another rider who had problems similar to mine managed to solve them. So I believe that with the right support and the right work, we can solve them as well.
“It's still difficult to say [what our true pace is]. In my opinion, from Silverstone through Aragon we'll see the true level of performance on track, and from there we'll have a clearer picture for the rest of the season.”

Ducati started the season as certainly the second-fastest manufacturer, ending their period of dominance since 2021.

Aprilia have led the way with both the factory squad and satellite outfit Trackhouse, although problems at the top team have completely changed the championship outlook.
Marco Bezzecchi has gone from leader and clear favourite to fourth in the standings, with even satellite rider Ai Ogura leapfrogging him into second.
‘Bez’ hasn’t scored a single Grand Prix point in the last four events due to a combination of crashes, injury and an assault on a marshal that resulted in a one-race ban.
But Bagnaia still sees him as the fastest on the grid, and perhaps more encouragement that he can have a title tilt before joining him at Aprilia next season:

"This year, for the first time, Ducati is not as dominant as in the past, as in recent years, and there are more competitive bikes, as in 2020.
“Bezzecchi is pushing hard and has had bad luck, but for me he is still the fastest on Aprilia.
“Marc is very strong, but at Ducati, one rider shines in one race and another in the next. We're not as consistent in our results as Aprilia.
"But we're working on it, and I think the second half of the season will be more consistent.”

Asked when we’ll see the best ‘Pecco’ return, he gave a cheeky warning:
“In Silverstone.”
The British Grand Prix is up next, showing the Italian’s confidence, and he’s also announced another upgrade - successful surgery on his right forearm.
A Ducati statement read:
“Francesco Bagnaia has successfully undergone endoscopic fasciotomy surgery on his right forearm this afternoon at the Policlinico di Modena.

“Taking advantage of the MotoGP summer break, Pecco will now begin his rehabilitation schedule. We all wish Pecco a speedy return to the track.”
