Ralf Schumacher faces surgery after unusual injury during jet ski event

Schumacher's appearance at Stefan Raab's Jetski Star WM in Duisburg ended painfully after an accident during the Team Challenge. Schumacher was driving the jet ski with Stefan Raab as his passenger when the pair fell into the water on several occasions. The former Formula 1 driver initially escaped without injury, but a second fall proved far more costly.

After the jet ski flipped over, Schumacher tried to turn it back into its normal position and began experiencing pain in his right shoulder. As he then attempted to get himself out of the water and climb back aboard, the shoulder fully dislocated. The incident left Schumacher with a dislocated right shoulder, bringing his participation in the event to an unfortunate end.

Schumacher later provided an update on his condition through social media, thanking the team at the event for pulling him out of the water and quickly putting his shoulder back into place, as well as BG Klinik Duisburg for the treatment he received.

He underwent an initial X-ray on Saturday night before having an MRI the following morning, which revealed that, in addition to the dislocated shoulder, a small piece of bone had also broken off. As a result, the former Formula 1 driver will undergo a minor operation, although he expects the procedure and subsequent recovery to be straightforward.

Despite the injury, he does not expect it to prevent him from being present at Monza, joking that he will simply have to hold his microphone with his left hand. He also thanked Stefan Raab and the other participants and described the event as great fun, while suggesting the cold conditions may have contributed to the unusual way in which he suffered the injury. Schumacher finally made clear that the organisers were not responsible for what happened and indicated that he would be willing to take part again if the event is held in the future.
