Norris is set to start from pole position at the first-ever Spanish Grand Prix at the brand-new Madring circuit in the country's capital. The Briton managed to snatch the top spot on the grid from Kimi Antonelli during the final moments of the session.

Two world champions, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, complete the second row of the grid. Charles Leclerc finished behind his teammate and will start from P5, while George Russell qualified only sixth.

In terms of the championship, Antonelli dealt his teammate Russell a heavy blow at the Italian Grand Prix last time out. The young Mercedes driver won after starting from P19 on the grid last Sunday, while the Briton finished second despite starting on the front row. As a result, Antonelli now leads the championship by 66 points. In third place, Ferrari's Hamilton is 76 points behind, while Norris trails Antonelli by 96 points.

The stewards were busy after qualifying for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix. Multiple drivers, including Antonelli, Russell, and Leclerc, were investigated for different reasons.

Antonelli and Gabriel Bortoleto were handed warnings for failing to adhere to the maximum delta time between the SC2 and SC1 lines during the session. In Charles Leclerc's case, Ferrari was handed a reprimand after admitting that the team had shown the Monegasque driver the wrong delta

Russell was also handed a warning for not following the race director's escape road instructions.

Home favourite Carlos Sainz received a grid penalty for impeding Valtteri Bottas in Q1. The Spaniard was not advised by his team that the Finnish driver was on a flying lap behind him. This relegates the Williams driver to P20 on the grid.
