De Formule 1 wereld reageert op het overlijden van Charlie Whiting

In de nacht van woensdag op donderdag ging er een schokgolf door de Formule 1 wereld heen. In een persbericht maakte de FIA bekend dat wedstrijdleider Charlie Whiting op 66-jarige leeftijd in Melbourne is overleden aan een longembolie.

Direct na het droevige bericht reageerde de Formule 1 wereld waaronder een groot aantal teams en coureurs op het overlijden van de geliefde Brit. Zo sprak Ross Brawn, de sportief directeur van de Formule 1 en vriend van Whiting over een groot verlies voor de Formule 1 en de gehele motorsportwereld.

Ook reageerde Red Bull teambaas Christian Horner kort op het overlijden. Volgens de Brit zal Whiting 'bijzonder worden gemist op de paddock en was hij een buitengewoon integer mens'.

Awful news here in Melbourne on the eve of the new season that FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting has passed away. Admired and respected by everybody, his contribution to the sport was unparalleled & immense. We’ll hugely miss him. RIP Charlie
