Verstappen warns rivals of 'Mad Max' evolving: 'New version'

The former four-time Formula 1 world champion finished third in qualifying for the first Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring circuit, behind Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli.

Asked whether he needs to use 'Mad Max' to claim his first victory of the season and overtake the two drivers ahead of him on the grid, the Red Bull Racing driver does not think that is the way to go.

"I think, honestly, with the state of track and how the tyres are behaving, you don't want to have 'Mad Max', you need to be 'Gentle Max'," Verstappen laughed when speaking to M4 Sport.

When GPblog asked where he thought the Madring circuit needed adjustments, he said that he was willing to help. "Almost all the braking zones. Give me a map and I’ll sort it," Verstappen laughed.

On a more serious note, he then added that drivers could be more involved in the design of new circuits. “Well, you can always ask, right? You can always ask once: ‘What do you think of this layout?’ I don’t want to go into details, because there are different track designers. I sometimes talk with one person about circuits. A driver knows very well what a good corner looks like."
