Max Verstappen doesn’t think he can compete with Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari on Sunday at the Chinese Grand Prix. "Yes, realistically we are fighting for P7, P8."
- Max VerstappenVerstappen qualified in eighth place, also behind Alpine driver Pierre Gasly. After being able to finish close behind Lando Norris' McLaren a week ago,
that is not the case for Red Bull Racing this weekend.
Speaking to GPblog, among others, in China, the Dutchman was not optimistic about his chances on Sunday. He said: "I don't know, not really a lot to be honest. I mean, we've changed a lot on the car and it makes zero difference. So, the whole weekend we've been off.
"The car is completely undrivable. I cannot even put a bit of a reference in. Every lap is like survival."
Verstappen already had a difficult race start in the Sprint earlier this Saturday. "Honestly I didn't even ask (what happened). They said they would fix it, so I hope that that will be fixed for tomorrow. Helps a bit to stay in position instead of starting a race from P20.
"Yes, realistically we are fighting for P7, P8."
Red Bull at most the fourth team at the moment
On whether the current gap to the frontrunners is track specific, the Dutchman added: "I mean, I hope that maybe other tracks we can be a little bit closer, but we would still always be the fourth team, if we don't change anything on the car."
