Charles Leclerc is not satisfied with his qualifying for the
Mexican Grand Prix. The Monegasque couldn't finish any higher than eighth place and will therefore start behind teammate
Carlos Sainz.
Besides Sainz, competitor
Daniel Ricciardo was also faster in his McLaren.
Ferrari and McLaren are in a closely fought battle in 2021, so it is important for Leclerc to score more points than the
McLaren drivers.
Leclerc himself thinks that a fifth place on the grid might have been possible in Mexico.
Leclerc was hoping for more
"I'm very disappointed in myself," Leclerc let
The Race know.
"The potential was there, I don’t know if I could have reached Pierre [Gasly], he did a great lap with the slipstream, but there was definitely the potential to be very close to him." At the end of his second run, Leclerc ran into
Sergio Perez who had already called off his lap after briefly going off track.
"My mistakes combined with the Red Bull [Sergio Perez] that made it very difficult for me in the last sector, but yeah, the main person to blame today for the eighth place is myself," admitted the 24-year-old driver.
