Ugo Ugochukwu is the new Formula 3 champion. The American secured the title after finishing second in the second feature race of the weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix. Entering the final Formula 3 feature race of the season,
Audi junior Freddie Slater and Ugochukwu were tied on points, with the tiebreaker favouring the American talent. This came after Slater crashed out a day earlier during the first feature race at the Madring in Turn 19.
The Campos driver started from second place on the grid today, while Slater lined up in P8. However, during the opening laps, the Briton lost a further position.
Ugochukwu crossed the finish line in second place behind Tuukka Taponen, while Slater could only gain one position on the narrow Madring circuit to finish eighth today.
This result also ends Trident's three-year streak of drivers' titles in the competition, after Gabriel Bortoleto, Leonardo Fornaroli, and Rafael Camara previously won the championship with the Italian team.
