After his Monaco GP heartbreak, Ferrari junior Rafael Camara won the F2 feature race at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, while Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov finished second and took the lead in the drivers' standings. Alpine talent Alex Dunne completed the podium. As Gabriele Mini finished in fourth place, Tsolov now leads the standings by three points ahead of his Italian rival. After an early pit stop, Colton Herta got stuck in traffic, and crossed the finish line outside of the points today in P15.
As it happened: The F2 feature race in Barcelona
After a slight delay to the formation lap in Barcelona, Oliver Goethe had to be brought back into the pit lane after he stalled on the grid.
Ferrari talent Camara got a slow start from pole position and lost the lead to Alpine's Dunne into Turn 1. The Safety Car was then deployed on the opening lap after Goethe's car stopped for the second time, this time at the pit exit. The Irishman did well to keep the lead ahead of the Invicta Racing driver at the restart and continued to lead the feature race in the early stages.
On the hard tyres, Red Bull Junior Tsolov began losing positions after the restart, as he was first overtaken by Herta and then by Dino Beganovic as well.
Dunne pitted on Lap 13 and was followed by Nico Varrone and Herta. Meanwhile, the Brazilian stayed out until Lap 22 in Barcelona and rejoined the track in ninth place, while Mini began attacking Dunne for the lead after the Campos drivers on an alternative strategy had also completed their pit stops.
Camara and Tsolov then began chasing the duo of Dunne and Mini on fresher tyres. The Ferrari junior caught up to the Irishman by Lap 29. Then on Lap 30, Camara took advantage of the DRS and overtook his rival into Turn 1.
Tsolov overtook Mini first on Lap 35 and then Dunne around the outside into Turn 4 on Lap 36, but the gap to Camara was then too big, which meant he had to settle for second place today. Still, the Bulgarian took the lead in the drivers' standings.
