Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez won the Moto2 race of San Marino Grand Prix at Misano.
The race began with all three riders on the front row crashing out at the first corner. Angel Piqueras made a mistake after starting from P3 and took out both future Trackhouse rider Daniel Holgado and pole sitter Senna Agius. Back in the garage, the MSi rider also went over to apologize to the Australian.
As a result, KTM's Collin Veijer inherited the lead with Gonzalez putting him under pressure. On Lap 5, the Intact GP rider made his move, and overtook the Dutchman.
During the following laps, Gonzalez, Veijer, and Barry Baltus were the riders in the leading group, until the Belgian received a long-lap penalty for exceeding track limits.
Gonzalez then built a gap to Veijer, while Baltus came under pressure from Ivan Ortola after serving his penalty. In the end, the Belgian managed to hold on to the final spot on the podium.
