Fernando Alonso has brushed off another tough day of winter testing claiming he was not "too stressed" about the lack of running from the team. The track had been busy for most of the day but was lacking a papaya orange
McLaren after Alonso had broken down in the morning with another overheating issue.
Ever the optimist, Alonso was quick to claim that the team were achieving their goals for the day and that the running they had missed out on wasn't too vital.
"All the important parts and things on the programme we managed to do in the morning. The rest of the day was more about long runs and putting laps with no information needed so I'm not too stressed about the laps lost today.
"Probably we need the last day to do some laps, to do some long runs, to check extra things, but in terms of fundamental answers that we need for the winter tests they are already okay, we have all of them.
"So I don't need the last day. I will be in the car, I will drive, hopefully we keep discovering new things on the car."
Throughout most of testing, McLaren have endured multiple issues on the MCL33 preventing the team from clocking the sort of mileage we might have expected them to now that a
Renault power unit is in the back rather than a Honda one. The Spaniard however is optimistic that the team will be able to get on top of their issues before the season opener in Melbourne.
“There is nothing fundamentally wrong on the car. All the issues we had they are well under control. Unfortunately, we keep discovering new things every day, but I think that’s putting us in a strong position for Australia.”
His teammate,
Stoffel Vandoorne will be in the car for Thursday's test where McLaren will be hoping for some more consistent running.
