Pierre Gasly, who will be chasing points with AlphaTauri again next year, looks back in an interview on his debut victory in the premier class, the spectacular race at Monza last year. The Frenchman stated that he enjoyed his victory even more because he never truly appreciated previous podiums.

“It was mostly my moment, I had dreamed of it from a young age”, begins Gasly, who will be the teammate of Yuki Tsunoda next year, the brand new acquisition out of Helmut Marko's book. “Since I was six years old, I dreamed of winning a Formula 1 Grand Prix and experiencing a moment like that.”

Goes too fast

Looking back on his previous podiums, Gasly always felt the moment of enjoyment went by too quickly, he explained in an interview with Speedweek: “Everything happens very quickly in Formula 1 and I had already experienced it in Brazil in 2019, on Monday morning after my second place I thought to myself: 'Everything happened too quickly.’I just had the feeling that it should have taken longer and I thought that I hadn't savored it.That's why I said in Monza:“ This is my Grand Prix, this is my moment, it belongs only to me.’”

It is for this reason, then, that Gasly took a moment for himself after winning his first Grand Prix in Formula One. “At a moment like this, a lot of thoughts go through your head. You think of a lot of different people. I just wanted to take the time to enjoy this incredible moment for a few seconds”, said the Frenchman.
