In a bizarre turn of events for last weekend's Moto3 race winner, Brian Uriarte, it was announced this morning that his results from the previous Catalan Grand Prix in mid-May have been nullified, despite the race taking place over two weeks ago. The 2025 Red Bull Rookies Cup winner, who was starting to mount a challenge on the championship top three
with his victory in Mugello, will have 13 points stripped from his record due to an illegal oil sample. Uriarte finished P4 in the race, narrowly missing out on a podium by just a few hundredths of a second. However, that race is now redundant for the young Spaniard.
While it has not been specified presicely what was wrong with the oil, the sample was deemed to be 'outside specification' and is therefore met with the punishment of disqualification. It is also unclear why the decision has taken 18 days to announce.
The punishment means that Uriarte will be pushed down from P4 to P7
in the championship standings, behind Veda Pratama, Marco Morelli and Valentin Perrone. So far, it does not seem that other riders will be subsequently pushed up or awarded any additional points. Instead, the decision has been made to simply strip Uriarte's result and leave the rest as they are.
With the announcement coming just one day before the Moto3 bikes head out on track to start
this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, Uriarte will have to refocus quickly and perhaps re-evaluate his championship targets. While a top three position is certainly still attainable, it seems that he will not be able to capitalize on a rare slip up from championship leader Maximo Quiles in Mugello.
