Norris’ F2 ambitions take shape as decision timeline emerges

The Brit recently expanded his involvement in motorsport by co-founding LN4 Fusion, a new junior outfit that intends to develop young drivers and provide them with a route towards Formula 1. The project was made public in the build-up to the Italian Grand Prix, with the reigning F1 world champion putting his name behind an operation that has ambitions across the junior categories.

A management structure is already in place, with former Prema member René Rosin taking charge as team principal and Dan Richards appointed CEO. Dan Hazlewood will oversee the British side of the operation as team principal, while Guillaume Capietto has been named racing director.

Formula 3 will be LN4 Fusion’s first confirmed championship after the team took over AIX Racing’s entry, ensuring its presence on the grid next season. The organisation has also acquired selected assets from AIX and is targeting a further expansion into Formula 2, having confirmed its intention to apply for a place on the grid from 2027.

Speaking during the launch of Formula 2’s new car for the 2027-2029 cycle, Michel confirmed that Norris’ LN4 Fusion is officially in contention for a place on the grid. F2 is currently assessing applications as part of its regular three-year selection process, with the outcome expected to be announced in around one to one-and-a-half months.

Interest in joining the championship is high, but that will not lead to an expansion of the grid. Michel explained that F2 intends to maintain the current number of teams in order to protect their stability, while also keeping the field at 22 drivers given the number of seats and opportunities available at Formula 1 level.
